Lawyer: Fugitive case against Leaf dismissed
A lawyer for Ryan Leaf says a fugitive action filed against the former NFL quarterback in Washington state has been dismissed. The Whatcom County prosecutor had filed an interstate fugitive case against Leaf after he was arrested by federal Customs agents as he crossed the border from Canada in mid-June on his way to face drug and burglary charges in Texas. Leaf posted bond in Bellingham, Wash.

UFL will consider signing Vick for debut season
When the United Football League debuts in October, Michael Vick could be one of its players. Michael Huyghue, the commissioner of the new four-team league, says the UFL is willing to give Vick a place to play - provided there are no pending legal issues. Vick files revised bankruptcy plan
Suspended NFL star Michael Vick has submitted a revised bankruptcy plan that funnels more of his future earnings to creditors, though a judge did not immediately rule on the proposal. Vick filed the new Chapter 11 plan Thursday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Newport News. A judge rejected Vick’s original plan in April. The revised plan also ensures creditors will get some money even if Vick can’t resume his NFL career.

One of the best offseason developments for the Bills, far away from the noise of the Terrell Owens signing, was the foot healing involving Pro Bowl defensive end Aaron Schobel.

Buffalo sorely missed its sore-footed pass rusher in 2008 when it finished with the NFL’s fifth fewest sacks at 24. Schobel, who suffered a Lisfranc injury in which the small joints of the mid-foot are affected, played just five games, was inactive for eight and went on injured reserve for the final three. He finished with one sack, the lowest total of his eight-year career.

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte’ Stallworth said on a 911 call that the man he struck and killed while driving drunk came out of nowhere. Stallworth is serving a 30-day jail sentence after pleading guilty to DUI manslaughter in the March 14 death of 59-year-old Mario Reyes. Stallworth also has two years’ house arrest after his release from jail and is suspended indefinitely by the NFL. On the 911 call released Monday, Stallworth describes how the victim “just ran in front of my car.

Jags trade WR Northcutt to Lions for S Alexander
The Jacksonville Jaguars have traded receiver Dennis Northcutt to the Detroit Lions for safety Gerald Alexander. The deal was finalized Tuesday after both players passed physicals. Northcutt gives the Lions a veteran receiver opposite rising star Calvin Johnson. Alexander, a second-round pick in 2007, gives Jacksonville depth in the secondary. He started 16 games as a rookie, but missed most of last year following a neck injury.

Vick plan offers more money to creditors
Suspended NFL Star Michael Vick would give up more of his future income under a revised bankruptcy plan. Vick’s lawyer, Paul Campsen, disclosed the basic outline of the new plan Tuesday in U.S. Bankrupcy Court in Norfolk. The full plan is still being finished. It’s due to be filed by Thursday. A judge in April rejected the first plan, saying it was not feasible. Under the new plan, Campsen said 10 percent of the first $750,000 Vick earns would go to creditors.

Former Chief won’t be charged in fatal crash
Former Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Rich Baldinger will not face charges in a traffic accident that left a 61-year-old woman dead. Jackson County (Mo.) prosecutor’s office spokeswoman Velda Cook said Monday that investigators have determined that a car collision Saturday in Blue Springs between Baldinger and Marilyn Walters of Grain Valley was accidental. Walters was killed in the collision. Baldinger played for the Chiefs from 1982-93.

Suspended NFL Star Michael Vick is leaving a job with a Virginia construction company to work with youngsters at Boys & Girls Clubs. Steven Kast, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula, says Vick will be working with children on health and fitness activities at several clubs in the Hampton Roads area. Vick was a regular at the Boys & Girls Club in Newport News as a youngster.

Former Cleveland Browns receiver Joe Jurevicius is suing the team and the Cleveland Clinic, accusing doctors of negligence over a staph infection in his right knee that kept him off the field last year. Shannon Polk, an attorney for Jurevicius, said the lawsuit was filed Friday in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court. It alleges that team physicians failed to warn Jurevicius that therapy equipment was not always cleaned at the team’s training facility.
